School House Rock Math

This week my son needed to learn to skip count by 3's. He remembered the song, "Three is the Magic Number" from off of School House Rock video. It was perfect! We have been singing the song since then. I went to Amazon and ordered the SHR DVD (which we are waiting to arrive), then I thought to check it out on youtube.com. And they had quite a few of the songs! All of the number songs, I put on the right hand side of my blog for easy access. At first, I didn't understand WHY they had taken these off of t.v.???!!! I mean, they were excellent learning tools! But, then I listened to some of the words and there are a lot of Biblical refernces in the songs- WOW. Our country has fallen to the point where they don't mind cursing and nudity, but they would have a fit if School House Rock were to play on television again.

  2. Hey there.

I stopped by to see the Schoolhouse Rocks videos. Your blog looks so lovely. You did a really nice job. I especially love the picture you made of you children at the top. You are very talented.

I also wanted to comment on your music. I love the song "Living Word" but I didn't know who sang it. I heard it a few months ago and loved it instantly. I also like "He is concerned about you." So I may be stopping by your blog more often just to listen to your playlist.

I hope that you are having a wonderful week in the Lord,

I sure it got taken off of tv because not enough kids watched it..My problem is with the parents why would they let there kids watch things that are not teaching good values or an innocent program..then buy the toys ect without know what the shows were about..thats how to good programs get taken off of tv..

  4. My children also have a big liking to School House Rock. It's funny to be out and public with my 3 yr old singing the songs and watching peoples faces as they hear and see him. LOL :o) I am not sure if you have a library near by, but our library carries all of the School House Rock videos. They even have one on DVD that has all the shows. It actually comes with two or more DVDs in the package.

    Blessings,

    JEN

  6. I have just been introducing my 7-year-old to Schoolhouse Rock this month! We have one of the cds and we've been listening to it in the car!

Thanks for listing the Youtube videos! I've been thinking of getting some from Netflix, but now I can see if she enjoys them first!

  7. We just checked the complete anniversary edition from the library. My husband and I recalled learning the preamble from SHR. My kids love the math especially "Figure 8"

  8. We use the Schoolhouse Rock videos from our library quite often. Just this week I was teaching my daughter to count by fives and she just up and started singing the "5" song from SR. Like you, I was surprised at how many of them mentioned God, Noah, the Trinity, etc. It's a shame that we are so coarsened by culture that we expect the profanity and are surprised at the divine.
