Today, the Weaver had us to make hail...hmmm, I never did that in school, so today was a learning experience for me, too. We had four cups with water and put a different food coloring in each cup. So, we poured yello water into a bowl, let it freeze, then we poured the red water in the same bowl, let it freeze on top of the yello water, ect. We did this until all four colors were in the bowl. Then we broke the colored ice in half and the kids could see the layers we made to show how hail is made in layers in the cold sky. Here's some pictures:
Hi Malissa! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by a bit ago. I apologize it's taken me a while to get over here. Life's been nuts!
Oh my goodness, your children are *beautiful*!! :)
Cool experiment you guys did today. I am SO bad about following through with the hands-on stuff- well, I did actually get around to the sea monkey aquarium thing for science, but would you believe not ONE egg hatched?!? That's just my luck. LOL!
You asked me a question about your camera, but I'm not familiar with it. Is it a DSLR? Where you can swap out lenses? A lot of the effects I get are because of the lenses I have. I like to shoot with a small depth of field- or fairly wide open apertures. My two favorite lenses have apertures that can open up to 1.8. Do you have different lenses for your camera? If so, which ones? You asked about the pic of Millie- I used an aperture of 3.2 for that one to get the blurred effect.
Photoshop takes a while to learn. When I first started with it, I was totally overwhelmed. I just tried to learn one thing at a time. I purchased a book (Scott Kelby??? can't remember the author's name) on ebay about Photoshop techniques, but I probably learned more by searching for Photoshop tutorials online. There are a TON of tutorials out there. It's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. Don't give up on it! :) I use CS2.
TOO funny about your son and the wand! LOL! My boys would do the same thing, I'm sure.
Yep, catchlights (and not using your flash) do make a huge difference in your photos! It's kind of like when I was in school to become a nurse- I was always checking out people's veins. Weird, I know. (and then when hubby became a nurse, he finally understood) And then when I first learned about catchlights, I was looking for them everywhere. I'd look intently into DH's eyes and he'd laugh and say, "What? Catchlights?" LOL! He knows me well....
I still plan to do more tutorials and things but the problem is the time factor. You know how that goes, I'm sure!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Love, Alyssa
